Wi-Fi Support
At Rainbow, we’re here to help you stay connected with fast, reliable fiber Internet and the tools to make the most of it. Below you’ll find helpful information to improve your Wi-Fi experience, troubleshoot common issues, and better understand your Internet service.

Tips & Tricks to Improve Wi-Fi Performance
- Place Your Router Centrally
A central, elevated location with a clear line of sight works best. - Avoid Obstructions
Keep your router clear of walls and large objects. Wi-Fi signals travel in all directions. - Use Updated Devices
Older devices may not support higher speeds. For best performance, use Wi-Fi 6/6E compatible devices. - Add a Mesh Extender
Rainbow mesh extenders can fill in dead zones. Place it halfway between your router and the area needing coverage. - Hardwire When Possible
Ethernet connections offer the most consistent speeds.
2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz – What’s the Difference?
Rainbow routers support dual-band Wi-Fi, automatically choosing the best frequency for your device.
- 2.4 GHz: Better coverage throughout the home, great for older devices.
- 5 GHz: Faster speeds over shorter distances, ideal for streaming and video calls.

When to Reboot Your Router
When to Reboot Your Router
Sometimes, a simple reboot (restart) is all it takes to get your Internet back on track. Reboot your router if you experience:
- Slow Internet Speeds
Pages loading slowly or video buffering can often be fixed with a reboot. - Devices Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi
Restarting can reset the connection if your devices see the network but can’t connect. - Intermittent Drops
A reboot can stabilize a connection that’s cutting in and out. - After a Power Outage
Restarting ensures your router reconnects properly after an outage. - After Changing Settings
If you’ve updated your Wi-Fi name or password, a reboot helps apply the changes. - Monthly Maintenance
Rebooting once a month can clear up temporary issues and keep things running smoothly.

Wired vs. Wi-Fi
- Wired = Fastest and most reliable.
- Wi-Fi = Convenient, but subject to interference and device limitations.
Not All Devices Are Equal
Older devices might not handle gigabit speeds. For the best experience, use newer hardware or upgrade network adapters.
Think Capacity, Not Just Speed
Rainbow multigigabit speeds are built to handle dozens of devices at once—no traffic jams, just smooth sailing.
Quick Optimization Checklist
- 📍 Router in a central, open space
- 🔄 Reboot the router every couple of months
- 📱 Use newer Wi-Fi 6/6E devices
- 🧱 Minimize walls and blockages
- 📶 Use Rainbow mesh extenders if needed
- 🧼 Keep device software and firmware up to date
Troubleshooting Your Internet
Here are a few steps to help resolve common issues:
- Check for Service Outages
Look for alerts on the eBill Mobile App or rainbowtel.net. - Verify Your Account
Internet service may be suspended if your account has an overdue balance. - Check Your Fiber Jack (ONT)
Service will be affected if your ONT isn’t communicating with your router. - Restart Your Router or Mesh Extender
Reboot both if you’re having connectivity problems, especially if one area works better than another. - Look Around the Router
Keep your router out in the open—walls, furniture, and closed cabinets can weaken your signal.
How to Run a Speed Test
How to Run a Speed Test:
- Click Start on the test page.
- Wait for the download, upload, and ping results to display.
Helpful Testing Tips:
- Run multiple tests to check consistency.
