Moon Rocks

Supplies Needed:

  • 4 cups baking soda
  • ¼ cup water
  • Gold and silver glitter
  • Black food coloring
  • Mixing container

Directions:

  1. In your mixing container, mix together baking soda and water.
  2. Add lots of glitter.
  3. Add few drops of food coloring.
  4. Stir all contents together.
  5. Mold the sand with your hand to shape into rocks.
  6. Allow to dry overnight.
  7. Explore the moon rocks! (They will be brittle.)

Galaxy Bottles

Supplies Needed: 

  • 3 colors of acrylic paint (pink, light blue, purple)
  • Plastic water bottle (empty)
  • Funnel
  • 3 cups (one of each color of paint)
  • Cotton balls
  • Glitter
  • Water
  • Long skewer/stick
  • Glue

Directions:

  1. Place a layer of cotton balls in the water bottle.
  2. Poke the cotton balls flat with a skewker/stick.
  3. Pour a good amount of glitter on top.
  4. Fill your cup ½ way up with water and squirt in 3-4 drops of paint. Mix until color appears. Repeat this process in a new cup for each paint color.
  5. Pour ½ of the first cup using a funnel in the water bottle.
  6. Add another layer of cotton balls. You want it well over where the water is. Poke the cotton balls to make flat.
  7. Add more glitter.
  8. Continue pouring ½ of each cup into the water bottle creating layers.
  9. Add another layer of cotton balls. You want it well over where the water is. Poke the cotton balls to make flat.
  10. Add more glitter.
  11. Continue steps 8-10 until water bottle is full.
  12. Finish by gluing the lid to the bottle so that it can’t be opened.

Do not shake – the colors will mix!
